Hey, So, my 2024 YouTube income report is in. Here are the topline numbers:
This revenue has come from two simple methods that are unconventional and underrated, but are profitable, exciting, and sustainable. YouTube Method 1: Teach, Teach, Teach, Ad Revenue It’s deceptively simple. Just deliver as much value as you can on a topic in 2-5 minutes. Literally - teach the viewer to do something. Give it all away for free. The exact information the person is looking for. Examples:
I'd recommend choosing an app (Notion, Canva, Photoshop, Audacity, Procreate, Convertkit, Gmail, Trello, Google Docs, Google Slides, etc. etc.) and going all-in on tutorials for every 'alphabet soup' How-to question based on that app. Once you’ve done 20-30 of the videos yourself, go onto Online Jobs and hire someone in the Philippines to do exactly what you’ve been doing. Give them a list of keywords and your SOP. If their English is no good, give them access to your Elevenlabs account to make voiceovers. I’m getting videos made for $3 each, publishing 120 per month, and my long-term ROI is about $3 per video per month. YouTube Method 2: Teach, Teach, Teach, Info Product This method is the same as above, with a (lucrative) twist. Again, just deliver as much value as you can on a topic in 5 minutes. Again, literally teach the viewer to do something. Again, give it all away for free. But this time, you’re going to offer something above and beyond: a digital product. Here’s the trick: The viewer should leave satisfied regardless of whether they buy from you. You should give away everything they need to complete the task for free. Giving high-value knowledge away for free will win the trust of your viewer better than any sales page you’d ever write. But then, also offer something extra. Anything that can be templated can be sold. Just brainstorm: what templates could you make in your niche? My favorite thing to offer is ChatGPT prompts that speed up the process of doing [X task] for the viewer. Here are some more examples:
The link in the description will send them to a Gumroad page (you can set these up in 5 minutes). Set the product price at $29, but then, give them a 50% discount. Tell them it's because you're friends. Bonus: Do 35 videos like this and you’ll suddenly have an archive of 35 low-ticket digital products ready to sell. Now, you can add fuel to the fire. In the Gumroad cart, upsell the buyer to an “All Access Pass” for $89. Give them every digital product you’ve made for your channel. Show them the raw value then offer an incredible discount (say you have 35 digital products at $29 each. That’s $1,015 value. But hey, if you upgrade during this purchase, you get them all for $89). I made $1,464.30 last year through this upsell method alone. And I’m only just at the very start of this journey. P.S: If your average order value is $35 and you sell 1 of this digital product per 1,000 views, your RPM is already $35. Rules of the Game 1. Stop Chasing Views with Gimmicks. Instead, Focus on Creating Value. I’m always tempted by the bright shiny lights over there - the ones that say you’ll get 4 million views on your “Faceless YouTube Video” on “7 Stoic Rules for Life”. And last year, I tried chasing this virality a lot. I tried it with Facebook. I tried it with Faceless YouTube. I made gimmicky videos like “10 Reasons You’re Still Single in Your 30s” and “10 Signs Your Cat Loves You The Most.” And I failed and failed. And failed. You've probably had this experience, too. Seeing people go viral but struggling yourself. But the methods I'm describing in this emails are for people like us - people who aren't so lucky (skilled?) to get insane virality on their third faceless YouTube channel about "How to be a Sigma Male, Bro". Just make genuinely helpful educational videos. Make humble yet valuable videos that teach something to people looking for answers. If you make enough of them, you’ll make money - and it’s more of a sure bet than chasing virality. And here’s why: If you create valuable content that solves problems, people will come to you. 2. Cast Your Rod Where There’s Fish I live about 100 meters from one of the best fly fishing rivers in the world. The first thing I do when I go out to the river is ask the guy who got there ahead of me: “what’s catching today?” He’ll tell me the fly he used to get the most success. And he’ll tell me the exact bend where he caught 3 beautiful shiny Cutthroat trout just 30 minutes prior. And that’s where I’ll cast my line. The same goes for YouTube. Look for successful channels and fish in their pond - if nobody’s fishing in a certain niche, there’s usually a good reason. 3. Keep Showing Up Learn from my mistake. You saw me doing this last year - equivocating. Wondering whether this model was working. Hiring a VA then laying them off 30 days later because I didn’t have the confidence in the model. Then 3 months later, when the videos finally took off, I hired another VA. And I repeated that cycle a few times. So, if you’re going to do this model, commit to it:
This year, I'm aiming to make 3,000 videos and 75 more info products. I'd also like to add a nice fat zero onto the end of that $9,427 in 2025. Thanks for reading, Chris. P.S. My niche site finally got accepted into Mediavine. I’ll give you an income report next month. |
This post-it note has been sitting on my desk for 12 months: It was a reminder: If I wanted to get back to the top, it’d be slow. One milestone at a time. To get to $20,000 months, I first need: $1,500 months … Then $3,000 months Then $4,000 months … and so on. February 2024, when I wrote that post-it note, things were pretty bleak: New Niche Site: $0 (I launched it on 28 Feb 2024) Main YT Channel Earnings: $145 February 2024 Total: $145 February 2025, I’ve made it to that $3,000 milestone:...
